Tigers (LTTE) are back, Beware !

Srilanka's successful Winning over the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), have made a huge painful back hit to tiger sympathizers all over the world. LTTE sympathizers now attempts to come back in to light by spreading bogus news on the internet.
The latest incident is, the Times Online (UK) reported that they have found evidences of killing of more than 20,000 tamils in the last few days of the final battle against LTTE in Srilanka.

The title of the 02 reports of Times Online were "The hidden massacre: Sri Lanka’s final offensive against Tamil Tigers" : Read the report
and second : "Times photographs expose Sri Lanka’s lie on civilian deaths at beach" Read the report

Those two reports claimed that aerial photographs, unofficial documents, witness accounts and expert testimony present a clear evidence of an atrocity that comes close to matching Srebrenica, Darfur and other massacres of civilians.

Times Online Further says "With the world’s media and aid organisations kept well away from the fighting, the army launched a fierce barrage that began at the end of April and lasted about three weeks. The offensive ended Sri Lanka’s 26-year civil war with the Tamil Tigers, but innocent civilians paid the price."

They says that they have obtained UN's confidential documents which says "nearly 7,000 civilian deaths in the no-fire zone up to the end of April, with an average of 1,000 civilians killed each day until May 19, the day after Velupillai Prabhakaran, the leader of the Tamil Tigers, was killed."

However top UN officials today said they have not published such documents to public and they don't thinks that the existing of such documents of the UN. Times Online's whole story is based on the two pictures taken at a helicopter, which shows the destruction of the flimsy refugee camp and a more orderly military cemetery, believed to be for hundreds of rebel fighters. So what we clearly understands here is Times Online have taken in to account the deaths of LTTE tiger cadres as civilians deaths so that increase the total.

Here is another quote from Times Online Report about massacre "the arrangement of the army and rebel firing positions and the narrowness of the no-fire zone made it unlikely that Tiger mortar fire or artillery caused a significant number of deaths. “It looks more likely that the firing position has been located by the Sri Lankan Army and it has then been targeted with air-burst and ground-impact mortars,”
Just look at the above time's quaote and what do you conclude ?

A fairly biased report and clear attempt to blame the Srilankan government and it's ARMY.
With an unsuccessful effort to providing a fake picture about the issue to the world.

Srilanka Resolution won at UNHRC

Srilanka won it's resolution on "Assistance to Sri Lanka in the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights" at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva ,27May. Srilanka received 29 votes in favor of the Resolution from UNHRC member countries and just 12 votes against it.

Countries who were supported the Srilanka including China, India, Russia, Indonesia, Philippines, Cuba, Iran, Myanmar, Pakistan, South Africa, and other African countries. The emphasis here is that votes are mostly received from Developing Nations, Political Analyzers says Developing Nations no more act in Prejudice over high power developed nations and this is a good move to demolish the power of US and it's sympathizers on international organisations and committees.

Disaster Management and Human Rights Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe says that "This reflects that the international community is behind Sri Lanka in its endeavour to rebuild the nation and to provide our citizens with equal opportunities”.

The UN human rights council called on Tuesday for an international inquiry to determine if Sri Lankan government forces and Tamil rebels committed war crimes in the last burst of their conflict and Sri Lanka should ensure the full access to displaced people in camps located north.
But in an unusual move, Sri Lanka itself submitted a resolution stressing its sovereign right to act without outside interference, which then Human Rights Council approved.

Human Rights Watch
The "Human Rights Watch" is deeply disappointed with the UNHRC decision of praising Srilanka's resolution rather than opposing it.

Anti-LTTE rallies in Berlin and finland

Sri Lankans living in Finland have gathered yesterday in Helsinki to take part in a demonstration against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) terrorist activities in Sri Lanka.
The demonstration was held for 2 hours in Helsinki city centre in front of the Finish Parliament with a strong participation of peace loving Sri Lankans and Finns alike.
The demonstrators exhibited photographs showing destructions, killings and maiming carried out by the LTTE in the ongoing civil war. They also distributed leaflets sending the message to proscribe LTTE’s front organization Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) and raising awareness among the Finnish public.

On the other hand Sri Lankans in Germany and all who reject LTTE terrorism held a demonstration today in Berlin to protest against the LTTE intimidation of Tamils living in Germany, Germany's failure to ban the LTTE as a terrorist organisation and the recruitment of child soldiers.

"Sri Lankans Against LTTE Terror - Germany" urges the Federal Government and the Interior Minister to identify and ban the LTTE as a terrorist organisation in Germany.

Numerous front organisations such as Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO), Tamil Coordination Committee (TCC), and Tamil Youth Organization (TYO) etc., which support the LTTE must also be included in this ban, they said.

Pressure from India to stop military action

It is said that the main intention of recent visit of a high profile Indian delegation to Sri Lanka is to asked the Government to stop military action against the LTTE.
This is a hot topic among srilankan politicians these days.
But the governmwnt rejects the story, saying the objective of visit is to manifestation of the flourishing bilateral relations between the two countries, Cabinet spokesman Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said.
Pointing out that the Government's action against the LTTE was aimed at liberating the people of the North from terrorism, Minister Yapa said that both countries concurred on the need to address the grievances of the Tamil community through a political solution.
"Our relations with India were never as friendly and favourable as today. It is as a result of these healthy relations that not only political leaders but also top officials of the two countries are holding discussions on a regular basis," he added.

Corn grown for silage accounts for about two percent of the total harvested cropland or about 6 million acres.

Israel and Hamas ceasefire

A ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza has begun,

Under the terms of the truce, Israel will ease its blockade on Gaza and talks to release an Israeli soldier held by Hamas are expected to resume.

Israeli PM, Ehud Olmert, has warned that the truce, which started at 0600 (0300 GMT), will be fragile.

At least 40 rockets and mortars were fired from Gaza at Israel on Wednesday and Israel carried out air strikes.

Another militant group, Islamic Jihad, who lost several members to Israeli air strikes in recent days, claimed responsibility for some of the attacks.

The United States on Wednesday expressed hope that the Gaza ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas would force the militant group to "give up terrorism."

"We hope this means no more rockets will be fired by Hamas at innocent Israelis as well as lead to a better atmosphere for talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority," said U.S. National Security Council spokesperson Gordon Johndroe.

"We appreciate Egypt's efforts and hope they are ultimately successful, but for that to happen, Hamas has to choose to become a legitimate political party and give up terrorism. They can't continue to do both," he said.

Israel on Wednesday officially confirmed an Egyptian-brokered truce with Hamas-led Palestinian militant groups in the Gaza Strip, starting at 6:00 a.m. (0300 GMT) Thursday

There is a military solution to terror' says Wall Street Journal

the best way to end an insurgency is, quite simply, to beat it."

Very strongly arguing against what it called "the mindless" and irrelevant phrase that there is no "military solution" to an insurgency the influential Wall Street Journal said in an editorial that President Mahinda Rajapksa of Sri Lanka now promises victory over terrorism by the end of year even as the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) continue to launch high profile terrorist attacks.

Written by Bret Stephens the powerful editorial board member of the paper who was also the former Editor in Chief of the Jerusalem Post, the editorial said, "In Sri Lanka , a military offensive by the government of President Mahinda Rajapaksa has wrested control of seven of the nine districts previously held by the rebel group LTTE, better known as the Tamil Tigers. Mr. Rajapaksa now promises victory by the end of the year, even as the Tigers continue to launch high-profile terrorist attacks."

The editorial entitled "There is a military Solution to Terror" said, that Sadr City in Baghdad, Guviare Province of Colombia and the Northern Districts of Sri Lanka have become crucial reference points on a global map in which long running insurgencies suddenly find themselves on the verge of defeat.

The editorial categorically said, "Tigers are notorious for killing other Tamils seen as less than hard line in their views of the conflict. The failure to defeat these insurgencies thus becomes the primary obstacle to achieving a reasonable political settlement acceptable to both sides."

The editorial strongly advocated: "the best way to end an insurgency is, quite simply, to beat it."

The following is the full text of the editorial:

Sadr City in Baghdad , the northeastern districts of Sri Lanka and the Guaviare province of Colombia have little in common culturally, historically or politically. But they are crucial reference points on a global map in which long-running insurgencies suddenly find themselves on the verge of defeat.

For the week of May 16-23, there were 300 "violent incidents" in Iraq . That's down from 1,600 last June and the lowest recorded since March 2004. Al Qaeda has been crushed by a combination of U.S. arms and Sunni tribal resistance. On the Shiite side, Moqtada al Sadr's Mahdi Army was routed by Iraqi troops in Basra and later crumbled in its Sadr City stronghold.

In Colombia , the 44-year-old FARC guerrilla movement is now at its lowest ebb. Three of its top commanders died in March, and the number of FARC attacks is down by more than two-thirds since 2002. In the face of a stepped-up campaign by the Colombian military (funded, equipped and trained by the U.S. ), the group is now experiencing mass desertions. Former FARC leaders describe a movement that is losing any semblance of ideological coherence and operational effectiveness.

In Sri Lanka , a military offensive by the government of President Mahinda Rajapaksa has wrested control of seven of the nine districts previously held by the rebel group LTTE, better known as the Tamil Tigers. Mr. Rajapaksa now promises victory by the end of the year, even as the Tigers continue to launch high-profile terrorist attacks.

All this is good news in its own right. Better yet, it explodes the mindless shibboleth that there is "no military solution" when it comes to dealing with insurgencies. On the contrary, it turns out that the best way to end an insurgency is, quite simply, to beat it.

Why was this not obvious before? When military strategies fail -- as they did in Vietnam while the U.S. pursued the tactics of attrition, or in Iraq prior to the surge -- the idea that there can be no military solution has a way of taking hold with civilians and generals eager to deflect blame. This is how we arrived at the notion that "political reconciliation" is a precondition of military success, not a result of it.

There's also a tendency to misjudge the aims and ambitions of the insurgents: To think they can be mollified via one political concession or another. Former Colombian president Andres Pastrana sought to appease the FARC by ceding to them a territory the size of Switzerland . The predictable result was to embolden the guerrillas, who were adept at sensing and exploiting weakness.

The deeper problem here is the belief that the best way to deal with insurgents is to address the "root causes" of the grievance that purportedly prompted them to take up arms. But what most of these insurgencies seek isn't social or moral redress: It's absolute power. Like other "liberation movements" (the PLO comes to mind), the Tigers are notorious for killing other Tamils seen as less than hard line in their views of the conflict. The failure to defeat these insurgencies thus becomes the primary obstacle to achieving a reasonable political settlement acceptable to both sides.

This isn't to say that political strategies shouldn't be pursued in tandem with military ones. Gen. David Petraeus was shrewd to exploit the growing enmity between al Qaeda and their Sunni hosts by offering former insurgents a place in the country's security forces as "Sons of Iraq." (The liberal use of "emergency funds," aka political bribes, also helped.) Colombian President Alvaro Uribe has more than just extended amnesty for "demobilized" guerrillas; he's also given them jobs in the army.

But these political approaches only work when the intended beneficiaries can be reasonably confident that they are joining the winning side. Nobody was abandoning the FARC when Mr. Pastrana lay prostrate before it. It was only after Mr. Uribe turned the guerrilla lifestyle into a day-and-night nightmare that the movement's luster finally started to fade.

Defeating an insurgency is never easy even with the best strategies and circumstances. Insurgents rarely declare surrender, and breakaway factions can create a perception of menace even when their actual strength is minuscule. It helps when the top insurgent leaders are killed or captured: Peru 's Shining Path, for instance, mostly collapsed with the capture of Abimael Guzman. Yet the Kurdish PKK is now resurgent nine years after the imprisonment of Abdullah Ocalan, thanks to the sanctuary it enjoys in Northern Iraq .

Still, it's no small thing that neither the PKK nor the Shining Path are capable of killing tens of thousands of people and terrorizing whole societies, as they were in the 1980s. Among other things, beating an insurgency allows a genuine process of reconciliation and redress to take place, and in a spirit of malice toward none. But those are words best spoken after the terrible swift sword has done its work.

Indian Premier League (Players' earnings set to go over the roof)

Players' earnings set to go over the roof The Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to scrap the USD five million cap on the players' salaries from next season onwards, a move that could see top cricketers earn as much as a whopping USD 15 million (Rs 61 crore approx). The IPL had put a cap of USD five million (just over Rs 20 crore) for the franchises this year to prevent the very rich team owners from splurging too much. But with the inaugural edition turning out to be a major success, the players are set to reap the rewards in the next season."If we hadn't done that, I can tell you that our players would already be the highest-paid across any sport in the world," IPL chairman and commissioner Lalit Modi was quoted as saying in 'The Daily Telegraph'."It will happen - if not today, then tomorrow. Because once the franchises have established themselves, it will be a free-for-all," he added. The report stated some leading Australian cricketers like Matthew Hayden and Brett Lee can expect a several-fold hike in their pays when they go back to play the next season after their short stints this time.Indian ODI skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who fetched the maximum bidding price of Rs 6 crore this season, reportedly told a senior Australian player last week that extraordinary contracts of up to USD 14-15 million were likely to be introduced by the next season.Hayden confirmed that players were up for a financial windfall when the next season of the IPL gets underway."From what I have heard, some of the stuff (payments) this year could be just the tip of the iceberg," Hayden said. source - ptinews.com

China renews Dalai Lama criticism

Chinese state media has renewed its criticism of Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, as two of his envoys prepare to meet Chinese officials.

The Tibet Daily repeated accusations that the Dalai Lama had masterminded anti-Chinese riots in Tibet in March. This is a charge he denies.

The Tibetan government-in-exile said his envoys would convey his suggestions for bringing peace to Tibet.

Sunday's talks will be the first such contact since the protests.

Western governments have been pressing China to renew dialogue with the Dalai Lama.

There have been six meetings between China and the Dalai Lama's envoys since 2002, but no breakthrough.

The Tibetan envoys "will convey His Holiness the Dalai Lama's deep concerns about the Chinese authorities' handling of the situation and also provide suggestions to bring peace to the region," a statement from the Dalai Lama's office in Dharamsala, India, said.

There has been no official comment from China about the talks. A spokesman for the Dalai Lama told Japan's Kyodo News agency that the envoys had arrived in Hong Kong and that the meeting would take place in the southern city of Shenzhen.

China's state controlled media meanwhile continued to heap criticism on the Dalai Lama:

"Patriotic people of Tibet strongly condemn and vehemently denounce the litany of crimes committed by the Fourteenth Dalai Lama and his followers," said the official Tibet Daily.

FBI - The most dangerous

The United States' top intelligence agency, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) says that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) is the most dangerous and deadly extremist organization in the world.

Following is the what FBI says......

TAMING THE TAMIL TIGERS
From Here in the U.S.

As terrorist groups go, it has quite a résumé:

  • Perfected the use of suicide bombers;
  • Invented the suicide belt;
  • Pioneered the use of women in suicide attacks;
  • Murdered some 4,000 people in the past two years alone; and
  • Assassinated two world leaders—the only terrorist organization to do so.

No, it’s not al Qaeda or Hezbollah or even HAMAS. The group is called the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) or the Tamil Tigers for short.

Needless to say, the Tamil Tigers are among the most dangerous and deadly extremists in the world. For more than three decades, the group has launched a campaign of violence and bloodshed in Sri Lanka, the island republic off the southern coast of India.

Its ultimate goal: to seize control of the country from the Sinhalese ethnic majority and create an independent Tamil state. Along the way, it has launched suicide attacks, assassinated politicians (including a government minister this week and even the Sri Lankan President), taken hostages, and committed all of kinds of crimes to finance its operations. The resulting civil war has taken the lives of nearly 70,000 Sri Lankans on both sides of the conflict since 1983 alone.

Why should you care? Certainly because of the suffering and bloodshed that the Tamil Tigers have caused. And because its ruthless tactics have inspired terrorist networks worldwide, including al Qaeda in Iraq. But also because the group has placed operatives right here in our own backyard, discreetly raising money to fund its bloody terrorist campaign overseas, including purchases of weapons and explosives.

The U.S. government has designated the Tigers a foreign terrorist organization, so their activities here are illegal. And we’re determined to stop them, using the full range of our investigative and intelligence capabilities.

In April, for example, we struck an important blow when our Joint Terrorism Task Force in New York arrested the alleged U.S. director of the Tigers. The man supposedly held several fundraising events at a church and various public schools in Queens and in northern New Jersey in 2004. He is also accused of arranging high-level meetings between the group’s leaders and U.S. supporters.

We’ve also arrested another 11 Tamil Tiger-related suspects in the New York City region. And in Baltimore, following a multi-agency investigation, a pair of Indonesian men pled guilty and were sentenced recently for working with others to export surface to air missiles, state-of-the-art firearms, machine guns, and night vision goggles to the Tigers in Sri Lanka.

You can help by being careful with your donations. Like other terrorists, the Tigers have raised funds under a variety of cover organizations, often by posing as charities. A great deal of money, for example, was raised for the Tigers following the 2004 tsunami that devastated Sri Lanka and many other countries.

And please report any suspicious activities to your local field office or anonymously through this website.

"My Daughter, the Terrorist"

What makes anyone want to blow themselves up for a cause? In this intimate and personal portrait we join two young female elite soldiers trained for the ultimate mission. We share their childhood experiences, their dreams and their families’ loss. Left behind are the mothers.

Dharsika and Puhalchudar belong to the last batch of the Black Tigers, and are now equipped for the last mission: strapping an American-made Claymore mine to their bodies, able to blow themselves and everything within 100 feet to pieces. We first meet them at an optimistic time: The peace talks are making progress, and the Black Tigers are officially decommissioned. The girls are serving as ordinary soldiers.

The girls have a close friendship. For seven years they have been eating, sleeping, training and fighting side by side. They can survive for weeks in the jungle without supplies. They don’t know exactly how many enemies they’ve killed in ordinary battle.

Their only source of information is what the guerilla allows them to know, and sincerely believe that their great leader would never order them to bomb civilians. The grisly images of the bombing of Columbos very own World Trade Center is a somber counterpoint to this.

Dharsika’s family is typical: the father died in the war. We meet her mother, who has been struggling to bring up her family in a war-torn society. She tells us that Dharsika stayed with the family just long enough to bury her father, then disappeared into the guerilla’s hands. She is proud of her daughter’s fight for their homeland.

This film ends with us and the mother hoping to meet Dharsika and Puhalchudar on Hero’s Day, the yearly pompous and grand celebration of every single tiger martyr. But we – and her mother – are unsuccessful. In the pessimistic mood of faltering peace talks the guerillas have decided to put them into active service again.

Alongside the wailing and grieving mothers clutching the graves of their loved and lost ones, she places her flowers on the grave of the unknown soldier and walks away.

"My Daughter, the Terrorist" justifies suicide bombers

The Sri Lanka embassy in Washington has urged the authorities of the State Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation to take appropriate measures in preventing screening of "My daughter the terrorist," a movie on LTTE suicide bombers scheduled to be shown at the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, Durham, North Carolina, on April 4, 2008, an official of the Foreign Ministry said.

The film is said to be a distortion of exploitation of the freedom of speech guaranteed by the First Amendment. The film, 'My daughter a terrorists' has audaciously portrayed a 12-year old Tamil girl's path towards becoming a suicide bomber, trained and brained washed by the LTTE terrorist movement.

"The LTTE website has unashamedly admitted how she was forcibly kidnapped as an infant for the ignominious role of being a suicide bomber. The movie has no qualms about glorifying suicide bombing in all its gory details. The Full Frame Film festival in Durham is now using this film as an attraction for viewers to enjoy the Film Festival at Durham, North Carolina, Asiantribune website reported.

Sources from Foreign Ministry told news.lk that the Norwegian producer Beate Arnestad had arrived in Sri Lanka during the Cease Fire Agreement period and entered Wanni without the permission of the Foreign Ministry or any responsible state body for the filming of the movie.

Meanwhile foreign news sources reported on Thursday (04) that the Eelam Revolutionary Organization (EROS) has also urged the United States Government to ban the "Black Tiger" documentary in the United States of America, as it was a blatant propaganda film glorifying suicide bombers and terrorism in Sri Lanka and would entice would-be suicide bombers to join terrorist organizations that are a threat to the interests of the United States.

Also Sri Lankan expatriates from all over the U.S. have risen in indignation and fury at the gross insensitivity of the organizers of the film festival. The organizers have been reportedly plagued by hundreds of e-mails and faxes from the public, pouring in from many States of the U.S. expressing outrage and trying to appeal to the better judgment of the organizers, who should have anyway known better than to schedule a movie promoting terrorism, foreign news sources added.
