Americans elected Barack Obama as their first black president and he will be sworn in as the 44th US president on January 20, 2009.

Obama, 47 year old president will face the challenges of worst financial crisis since the 1930s, two wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and a nuclear showdown with Iran.

"The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even one term, but America -- I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you -- we as a people will get there," Obama said in Chicago, Illinois.

In a sweet moment for Democrats, he also seized the midwestern battleground of Ohio and captured New Mexico and Iowa, two states won by Bush in 2004 to close out McCain's possible route towards the White House.

Bush told Obama he was about to begin one of the great journeys of his life, and invited him to visit the White House as soon as it could be arranged

Supporters in Chicago cheering, "Yes, we can" were met with cries of "Yes, we did."More than 1,000 people gathered outside of the White House, chanting, "Obama, Obama!".

The win by Obama, son of a black father from Kenya and white mother from Kansas, marked a milestone in U.S. history. It came 45 years after the height of the civil rights movement led by Martin Luther King.

ARMy task force 3, (63 division) : New addition to the North battle field

The Srilanka ARMY introduced 'ARMY Task Force 3" to the North battle field to fight against LTTE terrorists.

The new battlefront (the 63 division) expected to get in to operations in Mankulam area.

Srilanka ARMY reported that, the first confrontation of the Task Force 3 reported 2.30 PM when the infantrymen confronted with a group of terrorists in the Vannivilankualm area, in the West of Mankulam junction. According to the battlefield reports troops have found 2 bodies of slain LTTE cadres along with two T-56 riffles .

ARMY says the deployment of 63 division will increases the ability of counterattack terrorists.

Tigers drop bombs colombo and Mannar - mission was unsuccessful

Security forces guards power plantLTTE planes dropped 2 improvised bombs in Mannar and Colombo, kalanitissa Power Plant, tuesday night October 29.

The attack was totally unsuccessful and no severe damages occurred. Eyewitnesses says their were only smoke and fire inside the power plant.

Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) officials said that a cooler connected to the gas turbine power generator caught fire and was immediately extinguished by the Colombo fire brigade who arrived at the site instantly.

Also there were no damages from the LTTE light wing air craf attack to the Mannar Military base.03 bombs dropped to the Mannar military base but no major damages were caused due to the explosions. Only one soldier is in minor injuries.

Tigers' air wing has three two-seater Czech-made Zlin-143 aircraft fitted with homemade bombing equipment.

Prabakaran pleads India to lift the ban.

Prabakaran asked the india to lift the ban on LTTE to 'fulfil the aspirations of Tamil people'.
admitting that Lankan forces have made inroads into the Tiger areas and were at the doorstep of their key town Kilinochchi.
Prabakaran also says the srilankan security forces have close
on the rebel strongholds and had even entered key areas.
However Pirabaharan Or prabakaran says though security forces
on close proximity to Kilinochchi town, capturing Kilinochchi is just a day dream of Mahinda Rajapaksha.

Prabakaran praised to the standing of tamil politicians in Tamil nadu over the srilankan tamil issue and also criticized the IADMK leader Jayalalitha's actions.
'Jayalalitha had also voiced her support. But, if she has changed her stand now, what could we say about it' said prabakaran.

Vaiko arrested in chennai


Officials of the ‘Q’ Branch CID of the Tamil Nadu police on Thursday arrested Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam or MDMK party's general secretary Vaiko on charges of 'sedition'. The MDMK presidium chairman and former Union Minister, M. Kannappan, was also arrested at his native village Alampalayam near Pollachi on the same charges.

Vaiko was arrested at his Anna Nagar residence, was produced in a city court and remanded to judicial custody till November 6. Lodged in the Puzhal Central prison.

The charges are based on the speeches at a party meeting on the Sri Lankan issue in Chennai on October 21. Mr. Vaiko warned that extending help to protect Sri Lanka’s integrity would jeopardise the unity and integrity of India. He said he would be ready to take up arms and fight for the Tamils in the island nation. Mr. Kannappan, who presided over the meeting, warned the Centre not to force Tamils in Tamil Nadu to struggle for a separate country.

US air strike kills 11 in Pakistan

"At 2:25 am, two spy drones fired three missiles at the madrassa of Mullah Mansoor. Eleven people have been killed in the missile strike" security officials said.


The air strike apparently targeting veteran militant Jalaluddin Haqqani, a major target for US forces, was the latest in a string of attacks on Pakistani soil that have raised tensions between Islamabad and Washington.

Haqqani was one of the most prominent Afghan commanders who fought the Red Army between 1978 and 1989. He subsequently became close to Mullah Omar, the leader of the 1996-2001 Taliban regime in Afghanistan.

Since the fall of the Taliban, Haqqani has become one of the most active Taliban commanders launching attacks on international forces in Afghanistan from safe havens in Pakistan, security officials said.

LTTE sea Tiger attck on ships with aid to Tamils

LTTE Sea Tigers on Wednesday claimed that they carried out a Black Tiger attack on Sri Lankan ship MV Nimalawa, which carried military and other supplies, in Sri Lankan naval harbour in Kankeasnthurai in Jaffna Wednesday,October morning around 5:00 a.m
The ships loaded with humanitarian assistance from Colombo to the Tamil civilians in the Jaffna peninsula were anchored in the Kankesanthurai sea region.
One of the merchant vessels -- MV Nimalawa -- is sunk and the other vessel was damaged heavily.

Srilanka NAVY says they have destroyed one attacking boat before they reached the target and killed 03 sea tigers.

The Tiger mission was led by Black Sea Tiger Lt. Col. Ilakkiyaa, the deputy commander of the Sea Tigers' female wing, who killed with Black Sea Tiger Commando Lt. Col. Kuperan, LTTE officials told.

India will send Pranab Mukherjee to Srilanka

NEW DELHI: Under pressure from Tamil Nadu, as well as the international community looking for leadership from India, the government will send external affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee to Sri Lanka to make an assessment of the ongoing conflict in the Sri lanka.



The invitation to Mukherjee was made by his counterpart Rohitha Bogollogama after Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapakse rang up PM Manmohan Singh to brief him on the military operation. MEA sources said the minister's visit was "under consideration, and dates had not been finalized yet".
Meanwhile, Sri Lankan foreign secretary Palitha Kohona was quoted as saying that a high-level delegation of MPs was coming to India to brief the government. The Lankan military operations have entered a critical phase, with the army claiming it had breached the last defences of the LTTE in Kilinochchi, which could confine the LTTE to Mullaitivu.

LTTE mounts artillery at government food convoy

A government convoy with food and essential items to displaced in the Mullaittivu district has come under an indiscriminate LTTE artillery and heavy mortar attack this afternoon while along the A-9 main Road at Puliyankulama, Mullaittivu, according to informed sources in Wanni.

When contacted to verify the incident, sources close to UN confirmed the attack but refrained from further commenting on the incident. The convoy was plying under the UN banner and had just crossed the Puliyankulama junction, when LTTE fired artillery shells fell in close proximity, the sources said.

The government food convoy consisting 50 lorries of food and essential items left the Omanthai Entry/ Exit point at around 12.30p.m., sources said. The UN envoy was forced to abandon the mission in safety of the crew and food stocks, the sources said. According to latest information, the food convoy has arrived at Vavuniya this evening.

The latest attack at the food convoy pronounces the callous disregard of LTTE towards the combined humanitarian assistance and relief work by the government and UN for the stranded civilians in Wanni, defence observers state.

Tamilnadu chief Mr. Karunanidhi said “if the Sri Lankan government continues to ignore the Indian government’s warning to stop the attack on Tamils, we might have to find an answer to the question whether we have to be in power in the State.”
Tuesday all party committee come to an agree that all 39 Members of Parliament from Tamil Nadu, resign within two weeks if the Central Government of India failed to ensure a
proper solution in Sri Lankan Tamil's Problem.

At the same time Jayalalithaa Jeyaram the AIADMK generalJayalalithaa secretary alleged that by demanding a ceasefire in Sri Lanka Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi was trying to protect the LTTE. She also described the recent approaches of Tamil Nadu's leading political party's (AIDMK, Congress, CPI, CPI-M and PMK) and M.Karunanidhi as a “farce” resolution.

She expressed that war in srilanka is only against a cruel, banned terrorist organisation LTTE not against tamils in srilanka. However Jayalalitha says India should not provide training for Srilanka ARMY.

Despite the different views of Indian tamils regarding srilankan Tamils, Recently sworn Tamil Karuna Amman or Vinayagamurthi Muralitharanparliament member Karuna Amman or Vinayagamurthi Muralitharan who was fight against srilankan government on the past, but now tie up with the samr gov. to protect tamils from Blood thirst Prabhakaran or pirabaharan, says Indian government or Tamilnadu politicians only concerns on Srilankan tamils when they want to get some political mileage and they are not genuine attempts.

He also says the recent moves of tamilnadu is because of their elections are around the corner.
if India or tamilnadu attempts to intervene on srilankan issues then they violate island's law.
